Exploring the Impact and Evolution of HL7 Standards in Healthcare Interoperability: A Comprehensive Analysis
Abstract:
Health Level Seven (HL7) standards have played a pivotal role in facilitating data exchange and interoperability within the healthcare domain. This thesis delves into the significance, adoption, challenges, and future prospects of HL7 standards in promoting seamless information exchange among diverse healthcare systems. Through a comprehensive review of literature, case studies, and interviews with industry experts, this study examines the evolution of HL7 standards, their technical specifications, implementation strategies, and the resulting impact on healthcare delivery, patient care, and clinical outcomes. Additionally, this research investigates the role of HL7 in supporting emerging technologies such as electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine, and healthcare analytics, while addressing issues related to standardization, data security, and regulatory compliance. Furthermore, this thesis explores potential avenues for enhancing HL7 standards to address evolving healthcare needs and maximize interoperability across heterogeneous healthcare ecosystems.
